DECEMBER 19, 2021 - Jaguars vs. Texans
WHEN IT RAINS, IT POURS
To say it was an eventful week for the Jaguars leading up to this past Sunday’s game against Houston would be an understatement. More leaks, kicking a kicker, and Urban Meyer being shown the exit less than a year after being hired. Many fans were hoping for a post-firing bump or a feel-good win for new interim Head Coach Darrell Bevell. That didn’t happen and the Jags were once again handed a loss from the Houston Texans this season. You could definitely say, when it rains, it pours for this team. The winds began to change and the rain started coming down halfway through the second quarter. Unfortunately that meant a quick jog off the field to the media work room to save my camera equipment from the downpour. I re-emerged with the teams at the start of the second half and once again, the rain came down. I missed probably a total of a quarter’s worth of game action, or inaction as some would say. Either way, this game was likely my last for this season. I felt a sense of accomplishment as the game ended and I snagged a few portraits of players running off the field into the locker room. I sat down on the field and leaned against the wall, soaking in the moment, the rain, and this entire season, all while the world’s largest video scoreboards displayed a “Happy Holidays” graphic. While the Jags won’t be the reason to make anyone’s holiday season “happy”, their mere existence has allowed me to have opportunities doing something that I love and makes me happy: telling stories through taking photos. The Jaguars also allow this city the unique membership of having a hometown NFL team to support, and even in the downpours that have lasted for the last decade and don’t seem to be ending anytime soon, we are still Duval ‘til we die.
