OCTOBER 9, 2022 - Jaguars vs. Texans
ANOTHER STREAK CONTINUES
Like the home opener against the Colts, the second game at TIAA Bank Field in Duval County saw another streak extended. This time, an eight-game losing streak to the Houston Texans was extended to nine. The Jaguars haven’t beaten Houston since the miraculous 2017 season - a season that already seems like such a distant memory. There were high hopes within the fanbase a week after coming within one score of beating the Philadelphia Eagles, a team that many consider to be the best in the NFL. Be it a sign of years of let downs, my personal feeling going into Sunday’s game was that this was exactly the type of game that would bring everyone back down to earth. Giving the final winless team in the league their first win seemed inevitable in my mind even before the first snap. Newly enshrined Hall of Famer, Tony Boselli was scheduled to deliver the first “DUUUVAL”, but some cues were missed, and the stadium’s MC continued rambling on while Boselli was working on getting the Duval County faithful amped up into our battle cry. Outside of honoring Boselli’s enshrinement and official jersey retirement, things never pointed up. It was a slow, boring game where the Texans game planned to play as conservative as possible with prayers that we’d just beat ourselves, which is exactly what we did. A fanbase that continues to be let down, was let down yet again. At least Travis Etienne’s “Crazy 8’s” shirt was pure fire though. Much like the same fire it felt like being on the field. How can a mild 80-degree day outside somehow feel like the hottest depths of hell inside that stadium?!
