OCTOBER 18, 2020 - Jaguars vs. Lions
Another game, another loss for the Jaguars. Since Week 1’s victory, the team has now lost 5 straight while also giving up at least 30 points in each game - a franchise record. Sunday’s game officially kicked off my wedding week, so I was hoping some future newlywed luck would bring a good game, and a much needed victory. So much for that! As always it was a great experience, honing my craft, building my portfolio, and seeking new ways to improve as a photographer. I shot this game with a bit of a handicap too. The week leading up to the game, I never received confirmation of my credentials being approved, so I did not rent my usual full frame Sony camera body to have on hand for the weekend. Sunday morning came, and I received a COVID-19 health screening text from the team, leading me to believe that was a mistake! I messaged the team’s photographer liaison, who quickly checked and confirmed my credentials would be at will call. A quick scramble of getting my gear together, and I was off towards the stadium with my old Nikon D3200 camera and my crop-sensor Sony A6500! For those unfamiliar with photography and cameras, it’s pretty much unheard of to try and shoot professionally, especially sports, with crop-sensor cameras. Without getting too technical, the amount of light they capture is less than a full frame, so it creates a challenge shooting fast-paced sports at a fast enough shutter speed at the proper exposure. I made it work though, although it was a challenge with the shifting cloud coverage and sunlight! In the rush of getting my gear together, I also forgot my monopod! Shooting a large lens handheld all game was quite the work out. Check out my gallery from the game below and let me know what you think!
